Dr Jean van Lierop (BChD, PDD, MSc)

Dr van Lierop is passionate about dentistry and believes that every dentist has the ability to achieve great things. Following the reconstructive philosophy, he believes that creating durable improvements of the entire (oral) health structure is only possible if we can achieve functional stability, predictability, durability and beauty. This passion has seen him complete his MSc in Restorative Dentistry and a PDD in Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a founding member and past president of The South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD), an ITI fellow (International Team for Implantology) serving as an executive member of the Southern Africa Section. He is a senior lecturer in the Advanced Restorative Program of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy and a co-founder and lecturer at The Bridge Program’s private practice modules. He is currently the Chair of the Scientific advisory committee of the South African Dental Association National Conference. With a strong belief in the value of sharing knowledge, Dr van Lierop has presented numerous workshops and podium lectures to local and international colleagues throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East. By teaching and sharing, he hopes to assist fellow dentists to achieve their greatness.

Dr Jean van Lierop is passionate about dentistry, and he is fortunate enough to be able to live his passion every day.
Education and Associations
Dr van Lierop has completed a two-year Diploma in Aesthetic dentistry in 2014 (cum Laude) and recently completed a research Masters in Restorative Dentistry which focused on some of the principals of minimal intervention dental treatment. During this period, he was a visiting lecturer in the University of the Western Cape Postgraduate Restorative Department. 
Dr van Lierop is a senior lecturer in the Advanced Restorative Program of the Implant and Aesthetic Academy in Cape Town, and co-founder and lecturer at The Bridge Program’s private practice modules - aimed at equipping newly qualified dentists with the necessary skills for private practice. He was the co-founder and past president of The South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD) and has been a Fellow and registered speaker for the ITI (International Team of Implantology) since 2017. He currently serves on the ITII Southern Africa Section executive and is course co-ordinator for the ITI Foundation level Curriculum. As a long standing member of the  South African Dental Association, he currently serves as the chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the 2023 National conference.  
Lecture experience
Dr van Lierop believes in the power of shared knowledge. That everyone has something unique to contribute, and that everyone has the ability to achieve greatness. It is only through perseverance and hard work that we can achieve this together. By teaching and sharing, he hopes to assist fellow dentists to achieve their greatness. Following the reconstructive philosophy based on a functional approach, he believes that creating durable improvements of the entire (oral) health structure is only possible if we can achieve functional stability, predictability, durability and beauty.
Dr van Lierop has been lecturing on the topic of restorative and adhesive dentistry since 2010 and has had the pleasure of lecturing on numerous national and international conferences in the Middle East, Europe and Africa
In addition to podium presentations, and as a Styleitaliano trainer, he has run full-day workshops on Adhesive dentistry. Sharing tips and tricks with fellow dentists over the past 10 years. He has been senior lecturer in the Advanced Restorative Program of the IAA since its inception. As registered ITI speaker, Dr van Lierop has also shared on the role of implantology and advanced restorative dentistry. 
The Bridge Program 
As a result of his passion for dentistry and his belief in the abilities of all dentist to succeed and love the profession as he does, Dr van Lierop has worked with his colleague, Dr Corne Smith, to establish The Bridge Program. Now in its sixth year, The Bridge Program aims to give young dentists the tools to bridge the gap between University & community service towards their new careers in private practice. Over the 8 modules, the young dentist  are introduced to the world of dental business; given tips on how to interact with staff and colleagues while learning how to build a structured treatment plan. The extensive clinical modules incorporate the latest tools needed to perform clinical procedures with confidence.
